Foods to Avoid If You're Trying to Burn Fat

If you're trying to burn fat and build muscle, you're probably already aware of all the dieting advice out there. One diet tells you to avoid eating this. Another diet tells you to avoid eating that. Unfortunately, most of these diets omit necessary food groups like carbs or healthy fats. Your body needs a variety of foods from all food groups to function properly. However, that doesn't mean you can eat whatever you want. If you want to burn fat, there are some foods you should avoid.

  • Sugary Foods- You probably already know that you should avoid foods like cookies, candy and cake. What you may not realize is that there are several other foods that are high in sugar. Foods like cereal, jarred sauces, and many others have tons of added sugar. You should read the labels of your food carefully to find foods without tons of sugar.

  • Greasy Foods- Greasy, fried foods are full of unhealthy fat that end up on your waistline. You should stay away from these foods whenever you can. It's much better to eat baked or broiled foods instead of fried. You can even get chips that are baked. So try to find healthier ways to make your favorite fried foods.

  • Low Fat Foods- This may seem a little strange, since most diets recommend that you eat this type of food. Unfortunately, when the fat is taken out of food, more sugar is added, so the food is not any healthier for you. It's much better for you to eat smaller quantities of the regular versions than to eat their low fat counterparts.

  • Processed Foods- In today's age, it has become commonplace for the majority of our diets to include processed foods. If you really want to burn fat and be healthy, you should try to stick with natural foods like meat, fish, vegetables, grains, and dairy. Your body can burn the calories in these foods much more efficiently.

  • Simple Carbs- These foods include white rice, enriched bread and pasta, and other foods. Unfortunately, these foods are stripped of much of their nutrition. Whenever possible, try to eat complex carbs like whole grains instead. You can easily find whole grain versions of your favorite foods.

  • Soda- While this isn't a food, it does need to go on the list of things you should avoid consuming. Regular soda is full of sugar and provides zero nutritional value. Even diet soda is not the best idea since it's full of artificial sweeteners. It's a much better idea to drink water instead.

These are the foods and drinks you should avoid when you're trying to burn fat and build lean muscle. Now, while it's important to eat these foods as little as possible, you don't have to cut them out of your diet completely. Every now and then, you can eat these foods in moderation and not worry that you've completely blown your chances of fat burning. You just have to remember to keep them out of your diet as much as you can.
